Our Products -- Traditional Tofu Making at its Best !!!
Ying Ying Soy Food is a small family-owned and operated artisan tofu producer. We have been proudly serving Canadians with the cleanest and best tasting tofu products since 2001. Our tofu finds its roots in its 2000-year-old tradition and processing technique. We still use the original coagulant, Nigari, and hand-coagulate and hand-make our tofu in small batches in the traditional way. Nigari is derived from the sea, and has been used in tofu making since 200 BC. Nigari is chemically known as Magnesium Chloride. Magnesium happens to be the essential mineral for the heart health. (Contrary to tradition, today's main-stream tofu is mostly made with Calcium Sulphate, which is gypsum, as it fits mass production with big machines.) Our products are also all hand-cut and wok cooked to perfection without using any additives, as we believe food needs to be pure and clean. Furthermore, we only use Certified Organic Soybeans grown in Ontario which are Non-GMO. Tofu is associated with healthful and conscious living.
Our line of products include:
"Gourmet Tofu" is Ying Ying's feature product line. Gourmet Tofu comes in six different flavours/styles including Sweet and Sour, Sweet and Spicy, Miso, Tomato, Black Bean, and Curry. "What makes your tofu gourmet?" One of our astute customers once asked us. The answer to this question is of two fold. First of all, Nigari tofu making is an artisan process. Our base Nigari tofu is all hand made in small batches by following the traditional technique. Nigari is the original coalgulant derived from sea water, Tofu has been made with Nigari since 200 BC. Chemically, Nigari is know as magnesium chloride. Magnesium is know as "heart's minerals", lack of which would be cause for irregular heart beat. Nigari gives tofu a refined texture and a naturally sweeter taste. Secondly, we hand cut and cook each product with only fresh ingredients. Our products do not contain any fillers, additives, preservatives, MSG, or any other artificial ingredients. It is just like the meals you would prepare at home. Gourmet Tofu is absolutely delicious. It can be eaten straight out of the package as a quick and nutritious snack. It is great on top of your salad. You can heat it up and serve it as an entree. You can also use it in your pita or wrap. It makes great pizza topping, too. Need BBQing idea? You have to try it on skewer to believe how good it is!
A British writer once wrote: "Soybean is China's cow, tofu China's cheese." Nigari tofu making ivery much resembles cheese making with cow milk. Our Nigari Firm Tofu is the traditional plain tofu. It is a product that best reflects the quality of our tofu. Our Nigari tofu is all hand crafted and hand cut, which is why there are no two pieces alike. Neverthless, this product has a high protein content, a pleasing texture and an excellent, naturally sweeter taste. Try it once, you will know the taste of traditional tofu. Ying Ying's Tofu Burgers are genuine and wholesome tofu burgers, because they are made with nothing but pure, Nigari Tofu seasoned with spices and herbs. There are no fillers or additives. They can be used in pasta sauce as a meat ball substitute, in stir-fries, or on skewer for the BBQ. Baked or pan fried, whole or quartered, they make a great appetizer. Our smoked tofu is a special product. It is made with prized tofu sheet (just like pasta sheet). Tofu sheet is the most hard pressed tofu that can possibly produced. It therefore has the highest protein content of 24.98%. The tofu sheets are rolled into rolls, marinated and then naturally smoked with tea and sugar. We do not use any chemical smoke to add flavour. The resulting tofu has a strong smokey taste and great to use in salads and stir-fries. Smokey Tofu Deli Slices (Formerly our Tofu "Bacon") This new additon to our Gourmet Tofu family is truly spectacular. It is the product that has earned the most "wows". Our miso paste is a premium quality product, only produced in small batches with an extended fermentation period of six months or more. Our miso is made in accordance of a family recipe that our owner inherited from her mother. The only modification made to the recipe was the substitution of wheat flour for rice flour making the miso gluten free. Miso is a very versatile product and can be used to make soups, salad dressings and dips. Please visit our recipes section for more ideas.
back to top Tofu Sheet is a type of tofu that we take a great deal of pride in producing. It is the hardest pressed tofu that we make. It has therefore the lowest water content, and highest protein of 24.98%. It is a very versatile food ingredient. It can be used in lasagna to replace pasta, as a wrap, or shred it into tofu noodle. Talk about gluten-free and high protein. It is used in our Stuffed Tofu Roast (Tofu Turkey), and our Tofu Bacon is made out of it, too.
Our Soybeans: We are committed to using only locally grown organic soybean. The soybeans we use in making our tofu are grown by Marcus and Jessie Koenig of Klondike Farms at Dashwood, Ontario. "Kent" is the variety of soybeans they grow. It is the best quality soybean for our tofu making. We have, for many years, been buying this superb soybeans from Beechwood Agri-Services, a small grain processor in Southwestern Ontario, to which Koenigs sell their produce.
